Andover Operatic Society first came together briefly in the late 1890’s, although we have little information about the society at that time. It was re-established in the 1920’s, mainly performing G&S Operettas. The Society disappeared from public record again in the early 1930’s.

In 1963 Brenda Jeffrey-Machin together with her husband and a friend reformed the Society as we now know it. The Society continued to grow and along with the old G&S standards, over the past 40 years or so has performed works as diverse as Carmen and Godspell. Favourites have included many of the Viennese operettas, as well as popular musicals such as Oklahoma!, Brigadoon and Carousel.

John and Sue Parker took over the roles of Chairman and Treasurer in the 1990s and had been running the show until recently, they decided that it was time to step down and thus retired from their roles in early 2007.

As for the future…. The AMOS Committee has recently undergone a major restructure and is now made up of Society members responsible for specific areas such as Finance, Marketing, Show Production, Theatre liaison and of course Membership.

AMOS currently has over 40 members and 70 patrons who support their efforts each year – they are always on the lookout for new talent and welcome both new members and patrons alike with open arms!!!
