Objective: To ensure that Society’s productions are planned and managed effectively,
so that all resources are optimised, good communications
are maintained, and the committee is kept informed
of progress.
The Show production Officer
will be responsible for:
• Appointing key show
personnel e.g. director, MD
• Appointing key back stage personnel and technicians
• Music and orchestra
• Lights and sound
• Costumes and wigs
• Make-up
• Scenery
• Props
• Cast communication
Appointing key show personnel
includes:
Researching and negotiating with the show director
Agreeing rehearsal requirements with the show director
Researching and negotiating with the musical director
Communicating rehearsal requirements to the musical
director
Researching and negotiating with the choreographer
Communicating rehearsal requirements to the choreographer
Researching and negotiating with the rehearsal pianist
Communicating rehearsal requirements to the rehearsal
pianist
Assigning assistants to the director, MD, choreographer
and pianist as required.
Appointing key back stage
personnel includes appointing the prompt.
Music and orchestra includes:
Ensuring that the MD chooses an orchestra structure
Ensuring that the MD appoints musicians
Arranging orchestral lights, stands and other equipment
Hiring orchestra scores
Collecting and returning orchestral scores
Photocopying music for shows
Requesting show scores/music and librettos
Lights and sound includes
ensuring that the following are done:
Designing the lighting
Rigging and plotting the lights before and de-rigging
after a show
Booking microphones and lighting equipment as required
Rigging and de-rigging the sound system
Operating the lights
Operating the sound system
Costumes and wigs includes:
Appointing a wardrobe manager
Appointing a wardrobe team (seamstresses, dressers,
rails)
Ensuring the design of costumes and wig plot
Taking cast measurements
Co-ordinating the making /hiring of costumes
Collecting and returning costumes
Arranging costume fittings
Hiring and dressing of wigs
Collecting and returning wigs
Make-up includes:
Maintaining make-up stock
Obtaining specialist items for a show
Organising make-up application
Scenery includes:
Appointing a stage manager and crew
Ensuring that the scenery is designed
Ensuring construction/hire of scenery
Ensuring dismantling/return of scenery
Props includes:
Appointing a prop manager
Ensuring the creation of a props list
Ensuring props are sourced/made
Ensuring the dismantling/return of props
Cast communication includes:
Publicising the rehearsal schedule and requirements
(e.g. people needed, in costume etc)
Informing the cast about the code of practice/theatre
rules and health and safety
Arranging the opening and closing of the rehearsal
hall
Keeping an attendance-register
